Microsoft Releases Open-Source Toolkit for Runtime Governance of Enterprise AI Agents
Microsoft has published an open-source toolkit designed to enforce runtime security controls and governance policies on enterprise AI agents operating in production environments. The toolkit provides mechanisms for monitoring, oversight, and control of agentic AI systems as they execute tasks autonomously. The release addresses a recognized gap in enterprise AI deployment: while pre-deployment testing and model evaluation are relatively mature, runtime enforcement of policies and boundaries for AI agents remains underdeveloped. For compliance teams, the toolkit offers a practical starting point for implementing controls required under frameworks such as the EU AI Act and NIST AI RMF, both of which call for ongoing human oversight and risk management of deployed AI systems. Organizations building or deploying AI agents should evaluate the toolkit against their existing governance obligations, particularly where agentic systems interact with sensitive data or make consequential decisions.
