Agent Security Controls

Agent security controls are the safeguards that limit what autonomous AI agents can do, such as restricting the tools they can call, the data they can read, and the actions they can take without human approval. An AI agent is software that carries out multi-step tasks on its own, like sending emails or changing records in a company system, so a compromised or confused agent can cause real harm quickly. For compliance and risk teams, these controls are the practical answer to questions about who is accountable when an agent acts, and they are increasingly expected as evidence of reasonable safeguards under emerging AI rules and internal audit requirements.
