AI Provenance
AI provenance refers to the documented history and origin of training data, model weights, and AI system components used to build and deploy an AI application. Organizations need to track provenance to verify that models come from legitimate sources, contain no unauthorized modifications, and comply with data licensing requirements and intellectual property restrictions. For compliance and risk management, provenance evidence becomes critical during audits, when responding to bias or safety incidents, and when defending against claims that proprietary or regulated data was used without permission.
