Clinical Validation
Clinical validation is the process of proving that an AI tool or medical device actually performs as intended for real patients in real care settings, usually by testing it against clinical outcomes or expert-verified results. For enterprise AI governance, it sits at the intersection of product safety, regulatory approval, and liability, since regulators such as the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the EU's medical device rules often require it before a clinical AI system can be marketed or used. Organizations deploying these tools need evidence that validation was done on populations similar to their own, because a system that performs well in one hospital or demographic can fail in another.
