Contract Governance
Contract governance refers to the policies, processes, and controls that organizations use to manage the terms, obligations, and risks written into their vendor, licensing, and customer agreements. In the AI context, it covers how contracts address data use, model training rights, liability for AI-generated errors, audit access, and notice obligations when a provider changes a model or its terms. Strong contract governance matters because many AI risks, from who owns outputs to whether a vendor can train on company data, are settled in agreement language long before any regulator or court gets involved.
