This threat is particularly critical in AI governance because compromised credentials can grant attackers direct access to models, training data, and sensitive deployments, bypassing security controls and audit trails. Organizations must implement credential management policies, rotation schedules, and detection mechanisms to prevent exfiltration and limit the blast radius if theft occurs.

One in Three Dangerous Agent Requests Bypasses Human Review, Research Finds

A large-scale simulation study, corroborated by Anthropic telemetry from Claude Code, found that human reviewers failed to block roughly one in three malicious AI agent requests, with credential-exfiltration attempts missed 35 percent of the time.
