Data Supply Chain
The data supply chain is the full path that training, fine-tuning, and retrieval data takes from its original sources through collection, labeling, cleaning, licensing, and storage into the AI systems that use it. For governance teams, it matters because every link can introduce legal exposure, such as unlicensed copyrighted material, personal information collected without a valid basis, or data that a regulator later orders deleted along with the models trained on it. Tracing this chain is what lets an organization answer basic questions about where its AI came from, who can vouch for it, and whether it can still be defended under privacy and copyright rules.
