Data Theft

Data theft refers to the unauthorized taking of sensitive information, such as customer records, trade secrets, or credentials, from a company's systems or from the AI tools that process them. In AI governance, the risk is broader than a traditional breach because prompts, training data, retrieval databases, and connected plugins can all become paths for information to leave the organization. For compliance and risk leaders, data theft drives obligations under privacy laws, breach notification rules, and contractual commitments to clients, so it belongs at the center of any AI vendor or deployment review.
