Diagnostic AI

Diagnostic AI refers to artificial intelligence systems that analyze medical data such as imaging scans, lab results, or patient records to help clinicians identify disease or assess a patient's condition. Many of these tools are regulated as medical devices, which means developers and healthcare providers must meet safety, validation, and post-market monitoring obligations before and after deployment. For governance teams, the key concerns are documented clinical evidence, performance across different patient populations, liability when a tool's output contributes to a missed or wrong diagnosis, and clear accountability for how clinicians use the tool.
