Evaluator Independence

Evaluator independence refers to whether the people or organizations testing an AI system's safety, accuracy, or risk are separate from those who built or profit from it. When the same team grades its own model, results can be shaped, intentionally or not, by commercial pressure and familiarity with the system's weaknesses. For governance teams, independent evaluation is increasingly expected by regulators and insurers as evidence that a company's claims about its AI have been checked by someone with no stake in the outcome.
