False Positive

A false positive occurs when an AI system incorrectly identifies or flags something as matching a target condition when it actually does not. In governance contexts, false positives are particularly problematic because they can trigger unnecessary compliance actions, customer friction, and wasted resources on investigation and remediation. Organizations must balance their AI safety thresholds carefully, as excessive false positives can erode trust in monitoring systems and create alert fatigue that causes teams to ignore genuine risks.
