Kill Switches
Kill switches are mechanisms that let an operator shut down or disable an AI system quickly, often with a single action, when it behaves unsafely or outside its intended bounds. For enterprise governance teams, the question is whether a kill switch exists, who can trigger it, how fast it works, and whether it still functions when the system is deeply integrated into business processes. Regulators and standards bodies increasingly expect documented human override and shutdown capabilities as part of responsible AI deployment.
