Mercor

Mercor is an AI-driven hiring and contractor marketplace that matches companies with freelance talent and also supplies human experts who train and evaluate AI models. It has drawn attention in the AI industry because it sits between AI developers and a large, distributed workforce, which raises questions about worker classification, data handling, and how confidential client information is protected. For enterprise governance teams, the company is relevant both as a vendor for sourcing talent and as a supplier in the AI data supply chain.

Mercor Research mapped 29 AI benchmarks against nearly 19,000 job tasks across 923 US occupations. The study found that only 208 occupations have meaningful benchmark coverage. This means vendor capability claims based on benchmarks may not reflect how AI actually performs on most real workplace tasks.
