Model API Abuse
Model API abuse refers to attempts to misuse an AI model's programming interface, the connection that lets other software send requests to a model and receive its outputs. Common forms include scraping large volumes of outputs to copy a model's capabilities, using stolen or shared access keys to run up costs or evade usage limits, and sending crafted requests to extract sensitive training data or bypass safety controls. For compliance and risk teams, this matters because abuse can expose confidential data, create unexpected billing and liability, and undermine contractual terms and acceptable-use policies that vendors enforce on the organization's own deployments.
