Model Concentration

Model concentration refers to the market or technical dominance of a small number of AI systems or providers, such as when a few large language models power most enterprise applications. This creates governance risks because widespread reliance on concentrated systems means that a single vendor's outage, security breach, or change in service terms can affect compliance posture across an entire organization. Concentration also limits competitive pressure to invest in safety, transparency, and responsible AI practices, making it harder for enterprises to enforce governance standards through vendor choice and negotiation.
