Nation-State Risk
Nation-state risk refers to the threat that a foreign government, or an actor acting on its behalf, will target, exploit, or compromise AI systems, models, training data, or the companies that build and deploy them. For enterprises, this can include espionage aimed at proprietary models, sabotage of critical AI infrastructure, and pressure on vendors through export controls or data access laws. Compliance and risk teams use this tag to track how geopolitical tensions and government regulations shape vendor selection, data residency decisions, and security obligations.
