State AG
State AG refers to a state attorney general, the chief legal officer of an individual U.S. state who enforces consumer protection, privacy, and civil rights laws. State AGs have become active in AI oversight, using existing authority over unfair or deceptive practices to investigate AI products, issue guidance, and bring enforcement actions even where no AI-specific statute exists. For enterprises, this means AI systems that mislead consumers, discriminate in lending or hiring, or mishandle personal data can draw action from multiple state offices at once, so compliance programs need to track each state's posture rather than relying only on federal rules.
