User Data Disclosure

User data disclosure refers to the unintended or unauthorized exposure of personal, sensitive, or confidential information belonging to end users or customers. This can occur through system vulnerabilities, misconfigured storage, employee error, or inadequate access controls, and often results in breach notifications, regulatory fines, and reputational harm. For governance and compliance, organizations must establish controls to detect, prevent, and respond to data exposures, ensure proper incident reporting to regulators and affected parties, and demonstrate reasonable safeguards under laws like the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
