AI Espionage

AI espionage refers to covert efforts to steal, manipulate, or exploit artificial intelligence systems, including the model weights, training data, and proprietary algorithms that companies and governments depend on. For enterprise risk teams, it matters because a stolen model can expose trade secrets, undermine competitive advantage, and carry regulatory and contractual consequences if sensitive customer data was used in training. Reported cases increasingly involve state-linked actors targeting AI developers and the supply chains that feed them, which makes vendor due diligence and access controls part of the governance picture.
