AI Legal Entity
An AI legal entity refers to proposals and debates about giving artificial intelligence systems a formal legal status, such as the ability to own assets, enter contracts, or bear liability in their own name. No jurisdiction currently grants AI systems this status, and most lawmakers and legal scholars treat AI as property or a tool of the people and companies that deploy it. For compliance and legal teams, the practical concern is that liability for AI-driven decisions still falls on the human or corporate actors behind them, so any future move toward AI personhood would reshape contract, tort, and accountability planning.
