Liability
Liability refers to the legal responsibility an organization bears when its AI systems cause harm, make errors, or violate the law, and it determines who pays for damages and under what conditions. For enterprise AI governance, the key questions are whether the company that deploys a model, the vendor that built it, or the individual who relied on its output will be held accountable. Clarifying these allocations in contracts, insurance policies, and internal controls is essential because existing liability frameworks were not written with autonomous or generative systems in mind, and regulators are actively updating them.
