Asset Management

Asset management in AI governance refers to the practice of tracking every AI system, model, dataset, and related component an organization uses, along with who owns each one, where it runs, and what data it touches. A current inventory of these assets is the foundation for almost every other governance duty, since a company cannot assess risk, respond to a regulator, or retire a system it has not recorded. For compliance and risk leaders, this area matters because many AI tools enter organizations through individual teams and vendor products, so unmanaged assets often surface only during an audit or an incident.
