Browser Extension

A browser extension is a small add-on program that runs inside a web browser such as Chrome, Edge, or Firefox, and it can read and change the content of the web pages employees visit. For AI governance, this matters because extensions that promise AI writing, summarizing, or chat assistance often see whatever staff type or paste into web tools, including confidential contracts, customer records, and source code. Malicious or poorly vetted extensions have been used to harvest credentials and session data, so organizations need to control which extensions employees can install.
