Unpatched Vulnerability

An unpatched vulnerability is a security flaw in software, including AI tools and the platforms they run on, for which the vendor has not yet released a fix or the organization has not yet installed one. For governance teams, the gap between disclosure and remediation is the period of greatest exposure, since attackers often work to exploit newly published flaws quickly. Tracking which systems carry open flaws, and how long they have stayed open, is a core part of demonstrating due diligence to regulators, auditors, and customers.
