Competition Law

Competition law, also called antitrust law in the United States, governs how companies may compete, merge, and share market power, and regulators are increasingly applying it to AI. Enforcers are examining whether dominant cloud providers, chip makers, or model developers could lock in customers, bundle services unfairly, or acquire promising AI startups before they can challenge incumbents. For enterprise compliance teams, this matters because a company that licenses or depends on a dominant AI provider may face contract terms, pricing, or switching costs that later draw regulatory scrutiny, and because AI partnerships and acquisitions may require merger review or disclosure.
