Cyber-Capable AI
Cyber-capable AI refers to AI models that can perform or meaningfully assist with offensive or defensive cybersecurity tasks, such as finding software vulnerabilities, writing exploit code, or automating intrusion steps. For enterprise governance teams, the concern is that the same capability can help a security team patch systems faster or help an attacker break in faster, so models with these abilities raise questions about access controls, vendor due diligence, and whether internal use could create new exposure. Regulators and frontier AI developers increasingly track this capability as a distinct risk category, which makes it a useful lens for reviewing both the AI tools a company buys and the ones it builds.
