Data Center Infrastructure

Data center infrastructure covers the physical and operational backbone that AI systems run on, including facilities, power supply, cooling, networking, and the hardware racks housing GPUs and other specialized chips. For AI governance teams, it matters because decisions about where and how these facilities are built can trigger environmental reporting duties, local permitting reviews, grid and energy disclosure requirements, and contractual obligations to cloud providers. Many organizations also depend on third-party data center operators, so understanding who controls the infrastructure and where data physically resides is essential for meeting data residency, security, and resilience commitments.
