Environmental Compliance

Environmental compliance in the context of AI refers to the obligations companies face to measure, disclose, and limit the energy use, carbon emissions, and water consumption tied to training and running AI systems. Large data centers that power AI models can draw substantial electricity and cooling water, and regulators in the European Union and several US states are beginning to require reporting on these footprints. For enterprise leaders, this means AI projects now carry sustainability reporting duties that must be tracked alongside privacy and safety obligations, and claims about "green AI" can create liability if they are not backed by verifiable data.
