Identity Theft

Identity theft is the unauthorized use of someone else's personal information, such as names, Social Security numbers, or financial account details, to open accounts, make purchases, or commit fraud in that person's name. In the AI context, it matters because generative tools can now produce convincing fake documents, voice clones, and synthetic profiles that make impersonation easier and harder to detect. Compliance and risk teams should watch how AI systems handle personal data and whether their identity verification controls can still tell real customers from machine-generated impostors.
