Misuse Prevention
Misuse prevention refers to the controls an AI developer or deployer puts in place so that a system cannot easily be turned toward harmful, illegal, or unintended uses, such as generating malware, fraud scripts, or disallowed content. For enterprise governance teams, it matters because a vendor's misuse safeguards shape the company's own legal exposure, acceptable-use obligations, and reputational risk when staff or customers use AI tools. Gaps in these safeguards often surface in news coverage as incidents, so tracking them helps risk managers judge whether a vendor's protections meet the company's policies and regulatory expectations.
