Frontier Model Release

A frontier model release is the public or commercial launch of a new AI system at or near the highest capability level currently available, typically from a large developer such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google DeepMind, or Meta. These launches often come with system cards, safety evaluations, and usage terms that set out what the model can do and what it is restricted from doing. For compliance and risk teams, each release can change the company's obligations, since it may bring new data handling terms, updated acceptable use rules, and fresh questions about whether existing vendor risk assessments still apply.
