Synthetic Identity
Synthetic identity refers to a fabricated personal profile created by combining real and fictitious information, often used to commit fraud or evade detection systems. For AI governance, this poses significant risks because machine learning models trained on biased or poisoned datasets can inadvertently learn to recognize or generate synthetic identities, potentially exposing enterprises to regulatory violations and financial loss. Detection and prevention of synthetic identities has become critical for compliance with KYC (Know Your Customer) requirements, anti-money laundering regulations, and emerging AI risk management frameworks.
