Transcript Retention

Transcript retention refers to how long a provider keeps the recorded conversations, prompts, and outputs that employees or customers exchange with AI tools, and under what conditions that data is stored or deleted. For compliance teams, the retention period determines how much sensitive or personal information sits on a vendor's servers, which affects obligations under privacy laws, litigation holds, and records-management policies. Contract terms governing retention, and whether data is used to train future models, are often where organizations discover the real exposure.
