Wire Fraud
Wire fraud is a federal crime in the United States, and a similar offense exists under the laws of most other countries, covering schemes that use electronic communications such as email, phone, or messaging to deceive someone into sending money or property. In the AI context, it matters because generative AI tools can produce convincing voice clones, deepfake video, and polished phishing emails at low cost, making payment-redirection and executive-impersonation schemes harder for employees to spot. Compliance and risk teams should treat AI-enabled impersonation as a live fraud vector and review callback verification, payment approval controls, and staff training accordingly.
