Insider Risk

Insider risk refers to the threat that employees, contractors, or other trusted insiders pose to an organization's AI systems and data, whether through malicious intent, negligence, or compromised credentials. In AI governance, insider risk matters because people with access to training data, model code, or deployment infrastructure can steal intellectual property, introduce vulnerabilities, exfiltrate sensitive information used to train models, or manipulate AI systems in ways that external audits may not catch. Organizations need controls like access logging, separation of duties, and monitoring of unusual behavior to detect and prevent insider threats before they damage compliance posture or create liability.
