Offensive Security

Offensive security refers to the practice of deliberately attacking systems, such as through penetration testing, red teaming, and simulated adversary campaigns, to find weaknesses before real attackers do. In the AI context, it covers probing models, applications, and their surrounding infrastructure for flaws like prompt injection, data leakage, and unsafe tool access. For governance and compliance teams, it matters because findings from these exercises often feed into risk assessments, regulatory evidence of due diligence, and decisions about whether a system is safe to deploy.
