Physical AI
Physical AI refers to AI systems embedded in robots, autonomous vehicles, and other hardware that can act in the real world rather than just process digital information. For governance and compliance, physical AI introduces liability, safety, and regulatory risks absent from software-only systems: a malfunctioning autonomous system can cause injury or property damage, making questions of accountability, insurance, and pre-deployment testing far more consequential. Organizations deploying physical AI must manage vendor accountability, define who is responsible when something goes wrong, validate safety claims before release, and often work with industry regulators and standards bodies in ways that purely digital AI deployment does not require.
